(Old) Dog Day Afternoon

(Old) Dog Day Afternoon

One of the sadder parts of rescue is when we get old dogs surrendered, some are for genuine reasons but none the less it’s sad, some of these dogs will live there days out at the rescue due to medical issues, most still enjoy a day out so on the 29th of feb we’re going to bring a number of them to Tralee for a day out,all are either on some medication or special dietary food which costs the rescue a lot so we’re hoping to raise some funds to help them by holding a coffee morning and bake sale,if you would like to donate some baked goods please do,it would be much appreciated or pop along and give an old dog a hug, they will forever be very grateful to you,we love old dogs and they deserve as much,if not more care than any other dog we take in.

We’re nearly six years old now and so far this year its been busier that ive ever know it,so many neglect cases have been called in its been difficult to keep up,some very difficult cases of dogs been abandoned in property’s where the owners have moved out and left the animals behind, many are undergoing Garda investigation so we cant talk too much about it but regardless we have to  move on and get these animals fit and ready for new homes,

We have taken in a large number of old dogs, dogs ranging from 10 to 16 years old and of course old dogs come with numerous issues, massive tumors/nails growing into pads/ruptured eardrums due to untreated infections and a number of animals with  kidney disease, personally I’d find it very hard to surrender my old buddy of 15 years but it has been done, some have been surrendered due to people’s ill health and we do what we can in these situations but regardless old dogs are a drain on our (more…)

Pixie

Our first rehoming of 2020

Meet Pixie she is a kind and beautiful Jack Russell. Pixie is our first dog to find a home in 2020 and we couldn’t be be happier for her. Pixie came to us last year when unfortunately her owner was unable to look after her . Beautiful Pixie headed off to her new home. Without a doubt she will keep her new owner occupied with her lively and playful spirit. She is a beautiful and friendly dog and what a great start to her year. We know that she will be very happy and content in her new home. She went off to her new home and she deserves all the care, love, long walks and happiness.
